It has been an interesting an uncomfortable two months for many people across the world. For sports fans, the global pandemic has put a halt on entire sports seasons.
Wrestlemania 36 was able to go on with some major alterations, however. Perhaps the biggest change to the card was a marquee showdown between 53-year-old transitional champion Goldberg and Roman Reigns, who has been out of the championship picture since relinquishing his title in 2018 due to the returning onset of leukemia.
During his Hall of Fame induction speech several years ago, Goldberg teased a potential match with Reigns. In 2020, given Goldberg’s near-disastrous showdown with The Undertaker in Saudi Arabia and after the disappointment of seeing the legend upend the rise of Bray Wyatt’s “Fiend” in what was essentially a squash match.
When Reigns pulled out of his championship match with Goldberg on short notice, WWE opted to put Braun Strowman in his place. For some time, it has been rumored that there may be some hard feelings against Reigns from the higher-ups in the company. because of this decision.
Dave Metlzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has even reported that as of right now, there are instructions to not even mention Reigns’ name on television.
It is entirely possible, however, that WWE is simply not mentioning Reigns as the multi-title world champion will not be returning until concerns about the pandemic have subsided.
Also, Reigns recently announced that his wife is expecting twins, so there is added incentive for the superstar and perennial Wrestlemania main eventer to prioritize both his own health and that of his family members.
