Two of the four opening round matches in the TNT Championship tournament have taken place. First, Cody Rhodes knocked off long-time rival Shawn Spears in a competitive contest on Dynamite. Last week, Lance Archer reigned supreme over Colt Cabana, handing “Boom Boom” his first loss in the company.

This week, the final two opening-round matches will unfold this Wednesday as Darby Allen and Sammy Guevara clash in a rematch of their all-action affair from Revolution. The other contest pairs the arrogant Kip Sabian squaring off against Dustin Rhodes.

In the latest edition of Road to TNT Championship, Dustin made it clear that he should not be competing if he cannot defeat the much younger Sabian.

In a phone message left to his brother Cody, Dustin had the following to say:

“Hey man, it’s your big brother here. I want to run a couple things by you. As you know, I soul search every single f—– week, right? I’m always asking the question, ‘can I still do this?’ So, my soul searching has led me to this: this TNT tournament is the most important thing I’ve done since wrestling you at Double or Nothing, hands down. To be the first TNT Champion means every fricking thing you can possibly imagine to me. So, one of the things I really want to discuss with you — and I would really like to talk to you instead of texting you this or voice mailing you this. Look, this guy Kip Sabian is no joke, ok?

If I cannot beat that son of a b—h, I will retire.” — Dustin Rhodes

It remains to be seen how the rest of the tournament will play out. Considering that a Dustin victory would square him off with Lance Archer, that direction certainly makes sense from a story line perspective.
