It’s been a strange time time for professional wrestling. The rules for title contests have seen certain liberties taken.
At Wrestlemania 36, you will recall that John Morrison defended the Smackdown Tag Team titles in a 3-way ladder match against Jimmy Uso and Kofi Kingston. The tag partners of each respective combatant were not involved in the match after concerns stemming from the Miz arriving at the arena with a fever.
While Morrison was successful in the ladder match, an inverted “rematch” of sorts was held on the most recent episode of Smackdown.
This time, it would be The Miz defending against Jey Uso and Big E.
This time, the outcome would be different.
Big E was able to capture the championship hitting Miz with The Big Ending.
This marks the sixth reign as Smackdown Tag Team champions for the New Day, and the eighth total reign if you include two runs with the WWE/Raw championships. While the legacy of the time was secure, this victory certainly propels them closer to “all time great” status.
